Today, we are embarking on a classic Bhutanese road trip. We will drive to Haa via Chelela (3988m) and admire the view of Paro valley on one side and Haa valley on the other.
As Haa was only opened for tourists in 2002, it is one of the most authentic place to experience the true Bhutanese culture due to the lack of tourists reformation. Here, you can explore Katsho Village and see how families live a simple life.
We will end the evening with a drive back to Paro.
-
Start the day bright and early with a drive to Shana. We will then embark on the trail route that was formerly used by Bhutanese people as a trading route. Think “silk road” but done in Bhutan! Eventually, we will arrive at Thanthangkha and set up camp in the meadow. Should the weather be in our favour, we may even get a glimpse of the magestic Jomolhari.
-
Today’s hike will be slightly shorter (4-6 hours) as we take and ascending path to reach an army camp. Hiking forwards, we will be rewarded with stunning clear views of our landscapes. After lunch, we will head to the campsite at Jangothang which is at a whopping elevation of 4040m! Enjoy the spectacular views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake while we rest and wind down for the day.
-
We will start our day by following the stream for a bit before climbing up our first ridge. The climb is rewarding as we get to indulge in breathtaking views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drake & Tserimgang. We then make our way up to Nyele La pass (4700m) before descending to our campsite at Lingzhi (4000m). Here, we bask in the views of mountain peaks.
-
We will make our way up to Yale La pass (4950m). This pass is used by nomads travelling between Lingzhi and Thimphu. We will then descend from the pass towards Jaradinthang Chhu and Thimphu Chuu. Perched at 4150m above sea levels is a stupa landmark which marks a near end for our day. Our camp at Shodu is just right ahead.
-
In life, there are ups and downs. Similarly, today’s trail consists of winding routes up & down following Thimphu Chhu through the limestone valley. Here, we may chance across caves that were used by monks for meditation. We will then make a clib upwards to the ruins of Barshong Dzong and Barshong village.
-
We will descend towards our campsite at Dolam Kencho.
-
After a journey filled with determination, we are rewarded with an easy trail today with small ups & downs. Our trail goes through bamboo forests and eventually meet our private car at Dodina. That marks the end of our trek as we take a short 30 minutes drive down to Thimphu.
